Making the Most of the Final Weeks of Medicare Annual Enrollment

The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP), from October 15 to December 7, is a very important time of year for Medicare Beneficiaries. Now that we are in the middle of AEP, it is time to take a closer look at your current plan and ensure it is still the right fit for your healthcare needs and budget.
If you have been putting it off, don't worry, it's not too late. You still have time to review, compare, and make changes before the deadline. In this blog, we will talk about how you can make the most of these final weeks and what options you have to take action.

Review Your Current Medicare Plan
Start by reviewing your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC). This document outlines any changes to your plan's premiums, copays, drug coverage, extra benefits, and provider network for the upcoming year. Even small changes could impact your out-of-pocket costs or which doctors and pharmacies you can use.
If you notice changes that don't work for you, AEP is your one opportunity each year to switch plans.
Compare Coverage Options
Medicare plans change every year, and so can your health needs. It's smart to compare your current plan to other options available in your area.
Look at:
Monthly premiums and deductibles
Prescription drug coverage (Part D)
Network doctors and hospitals
Added benefits such as fitness, OTC, dental, vision, and hearing
At The Bedrock Group, our licensed Medicare advisors can help you compare plans side by side to find coverage that truly fits your needs.
Double-Check Prescription Coverage
One of the most common and costly mistakes made during AEP is assuming your prescriptions will stay covered. Formularies-each plan's list of covered drugs-can change each year. Make sure your current medications are still covered and compare costs under different plan options.
Medigap or Medicare Advantage
Now is the time to review your Medigap (Medicare Supplement) plan to see if the annual premium increase is getting too high. Depending on what your monthly premium totals for the year, if that cost is more than the maximum out-of-pocket for a Medicare Advantage Plan, it may be time for you to make a change.
There are many considerations, but now is the time to see if that could be a better option for you.
Don't Wait Until the Last Minute
The closer we get to December 7, the busier things become for both beneficiaries and Medicare carriers. Scheduling a Medicare review now ensures you have enough time to make informed choices without feeling rushed.
Remember: Any changes you make during AEP will take effect on January 1.
